Most people in our nation are plugged in to many things. We’re plugged into: social media, networking, the Internet, face timing, fantasy football apps, etc. But as Christians, I think it is imperative that we are plugged into our Source of power and wisdom. That source, of course, is Jesus Christ.
If we are truly plugged into Christ as we need to be, there are six key things we need to be doing daily so that we are pleasing the Lord through our worship, lifestyle and evangelism. These things are:
- A commitment to Scripture.
- A culture of prayer.
- A lifestyle of worship and holiness.
- A connection to our communities, for His glory.
- A heart for serving God and others.
- A passion for sharing the Gospel.
Psalm 46 gives us a clear picture of what it means to know who God is. And when we truly know Him, we have an unquenchable desire to serve Him. That’s why it is so important that we commit to knowing Him in deep and abiding ways every day through prayer, Bible reading, praise and action. When we serve Him in these ways, He ministers to us and communes with us beyond our wildest dreams. In essence when we plug into Him, we get charged up by Almighty God and that’s pretty amazing.
You know, a lot of times we get active in ministry and doing lots of good things, but we miss out on being in the presence of God, which we so desperately need. Psalm 46:10 tells us this: “Be still and know that I am God ….”
Our mission statement at Thomas Road Baptist Church helps us remember that we have a responsibility to the Savior by being daily representatives of His wherever we are. Our mission statement reads: “To change our world by developing Christ-followers who love God and love people.” You know, when you are not plugged into God, it’s easy to lose focus on loving people. We can get sidetracked by all the junk that happens in our nation and in our world and we start to see people as enemies or problems beyond fixing. But God wants us to see people as He sees them. He wants us to reach out to people with His love and His Gospel.
Friends, we live in a world of relativism where people do what they feel is right at the given moment. In this culture of situational ethics, Christians need to be shining the Light of Truth with love and compassion toward people who do not know Christ. The world is running from God seemingly at a more accelerated rate all the time. That’s why it is imperative that believers are plugged in daily to the Source of all Truth and the only Source of salvation: the Lord Jesus Christ.
Spend time with Christ each day. Pray that He will give you a hunger for His Word and that He will give you a desire to see people through His eyes so that we can love them and show them His love and truth. God bless you as you get plugged into Christ and serve Him with new zeal each day!
