Second Corinthians chapter six is a passage that teaches us how to get our personal houses in order. It reminds us that our bodies are part of Christ and that we should not be careless with our actions or deeds because He wants us to live holy lives.
Let’s look at another great passage. In Matthew 21, we see Jesus entering Jerusalem with many people asking who He is. And the multitudes reply, “This is Jesus, the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee” (NKJV ). The people are proclaiming who Jesus is. We must always be doing this, my friends, so that Jesus has preeminence in our lives and so that He can do His greatest work within us.
So, after recognizing who Jesus is, there is another step if we want to get our house in order: We must understand what Jesus expects of us.
Later in Matthew 21, we see Jesus purging the Temple of those selling doves for profit. He had to cleanse the Temple to make it holy. This is a picture of how we need to be before God— holy vessels that allow no hindrance to get in the way of what He wants us to be. We can only accomplish this by giving Him full reign of our minds and lives.
In order to get our houses in order, we must also understand what grieves God’s heart. In Matthew 21:13, Jesus said, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’”
We have all grieved His heart, but we must get past these times and forsake our own desires for His holy desires. A.W. Tozer stated, “Holiness, as taught in the Scriptures, is not based upon knowledge on our part, rather it is based on the resurrected Christ indwelling us and changing us into His likeness.”
Finally, if we pursue holiness, God tells us that amazing things will happen. In Matthew 21:14 we see that after Jesus had cleansed the Temple, blind and lame people approached Him and Jesus miraculously healed them all.
When you need something to happen in your life, put away the world and run to Jesus. He wants to cleanse your temple and He wants to then do remarkable things in your life. As Joshua told the people after they had sanctified themselves, “for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” We still serve that same God, my friends. Pursue Him and see what great things begin to happen in your life and your home.
Your friend in Christ,
